CSU General Secretary Markus Blume hopes that FC Bayern will continue to deal with the issue of Qatar. “I have been a member of FC Bayern for many years. I was not at the last annual general meeting, but I followed the debates on the Qatar issue with interest. I think that is a political question that FC Bayern must ask itself,” said the former ice dancer in an interview with the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”. “FC Bayern is not just any club, it has a special level of reputation, it is at home all over the world and a global figurehead for our country.”

At the general meeting of the record champions at the end of November, the lucrative Qatar sponsorship caused controversy and, in the end, chaos. A membership application to vote on the partnership with Qatar Airways for the future had not been approved by the club’s management. “That is only a matter for the club management,” said Blume and stated: “It is not up to me to give advice to the club.”

Qatar as a sponsor? “There is always an alternative”

The 46-year-old Blume is “pretty sure that there are many companies that would like to be a partner of FC Bayern and would pay a lot of money for their logo on the jersey. In this respect, there is always an alternative to every option. If you can If you know the alternative, you can discuss it, “he said.

Most recently, FC Bayern announced that it would be “even more” involved in exchanges with fans in the future. “In concrete terms, we are in the process of setting up this dialogue. We are considering who to involve, with what regularity we do this, and we define clear milestones (in German: milestones, editor’s note) that we have to achieve”, said CEO Oliver Kahn in the current podcast of the Bundesliga leaders.

Kahn reported that he had learned from it and that he wanted to expand and improve the dialogue in the future. “We learned that Qatar is a very important issue,” said the former world-class goalkeeper.
