In India – probably without the knowledge of the Manchester United superstar – a new statue has now been unveiled. And in the best tradition there is some fuss about it.
The golden statue, which was erected in the Indian state of Goa, is said to go back to the request of the local youth. It should “strengthen the love of football and inspire young people to take football to greater heights,” said Michael Lobo, Minister for Science and Technology, on Twitter.
Although there is nothing to criticize about the statue, unlike the ones in Ronaldo’s homeland Madeira, it causes trouble.
Protests broke out the day after the presentation. Protesters waved black flags, the Indian news agency IANS reported.
