Carlos Watkins and his great NFL touchdown against the Saints

One of the most important details regarding the Cowboys’ game Thursday night against the Saints were the team’s four interceptions. Both Jayron Kearse and Damontae Kazee, Ttrevon Diggs and Carlos Watkins made comebacks for the Lone Star team. The fact that Diggs already has nine interceptions has been spectacular. But one of the funniest and funniest notes of the day is the Watkins interception. Which not only ended in this action, but in a defensive touchdown for Dallas. Which would leave the final score of 27 to 17.

Notably, Watkins came through free agency, having been in the Texans organization from his Draft selection in 2017 to 2020. Since late March of this year, the player has been working under Dan Quinn. and being one of those great backup elements on the defensive line. He’s already handled a total of 22 combined tackles, a sack, a defended pass and an interception this year. Clearly, this last play is the one that is totally striking because of the way it happened.

The action would take place less than three minutes after the end of the match. Already the Saints were on the ropes and rival quarterback Taysom Hill was looking for a way to close the gap in the game. Until that time, the partial result was 20 to 10.

On second chance and 10, Hill would attempt a pass but almost in a basketball move, Watkins would keep the ball and run to the end zone. It would be a total of 29 yards and a defensive TD that will remain in the memory of the player and the cowboy fans that were present.

“It’s definitely an early Christmas present,” Watkins said of the play. “It’s every fat guy’s dream to make a recovery and make it to the end zone.”

According to defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, Watkins’ abilities have a source and that is that the player was a great basketball prospect in high school. In fact, Quinn himself admitted that he tried to recruit him when he was on the coaching staff at the University of Florida between 2010 and 2011.

Certainly one of the things that clearly stands out about the play in question is that it was made by a defensive lineman. They are almost always busy with members of the opposing offensive line. So it is a bit difficult to be aware of the trajectory of the ball. That’s a job mostly done by defensive backs or linebackers with great reflexes.

Either way, one of the things Watkins regrets regarding the action is that he was unable to have a celebration dance. After the 29-yard dash, he might not have had long to absorb the fact that he had scored a touchdown. He managed to raise his arms, but his teammate in Dallas Tarell Basham ended up carrying him to the ground.

“That’s the worst part, the celebration,” said Watkins amid laughter. “You can’t breathe, everyone grabs you. Basham tackled me after the play, so I see why Trevon (Diggs) walks away from everyone. I’m going to take note of that and next time, I’m going to get away from everyone. “

Carlos will have a new opportunity when the Cowboys face off against the Washington team on the road on December 12. Therefore, you will have another great opportunity to achieve another surprise of this magnitude and if possible, have a proper celebration. After all, the Cowboys are winning again and you have to continue this positive streak to reach higher levels.
