BVB: Sebastian Kehl sees an “upward trend” in Julian Brandt

The form curve points upwards over the entire first half of the season: Julian Brandt played his best half-series in the Borussia Dortmund jersey. The positive developments are not hidden from those responsible for BVB – albeit with restrictions.

In the last six months, Julian Brandt provided plenty of arguments to counter statements like those by Michael Zorc. “I expect an increase in performance from him,” said the sports director counting the BVB professional in the summer.

There was even a premature departure from the former € 25 million transfer. But Brandt flourished under new coach Marco Rose. The attacking midfielder is much more efficient than in previous years. At the halfway point of the season he has already nine scorer points (five hits, four assists) – more than in the entire last season.

Brandt in focus several times at BVB bankruptcy in Berlin

“We see its upward trend in the first half of the season,” said licensing director Sebastian Kehl, despite the bitter 3-2 defeat at Hertha BSC before Christmas.

Brandt was in the spotlight several times in the Olympic Stadium – but not only in a positive way. First of all, the eighth brought BVB into the lead with a nice lob. His rediscovered goal danger is not least due to his position, which Brandt holds in Dortmund dress.

In recent years, the offensive player has been unfamiliar with his role as a false nine and feels visibly more comfortable as a playmaker in the atmosphere of Marco Reus. But technical sloppiness, which Brandt is often said to have, has far more fatal effects in this position.

BVB: Brandt’s downer in an encouraging first half of the season

Brandt dived under the ball against Hertha in a clearing attempt with his head in his own penalty area, around ten minutes later he played a disaster pass a few meters in front of his own goal. A few moments later the doorbell rang in the BVB box, and the defeat could not be averted.

A downer at the end of a personally very good first half of the season for the 25-year-old. “With the second 45 minutes [gegen Hertha] he will not be satisfied either, “Kehl is quoted in the” kicker “. Nevertheless, the chances are good that the form-strong Brandt can forget his mistakes at the start of the second half at Eintracht Frankfurt (January 8th).
