Big downer for Orange Lioness Daniëlle van de Donk: on the side for at least four months | Football

The Orange international sustained an injury to her right leg in the World Cup qualifier against the Czech Republic last week and had surgery in the Netherlands on Tuesday. Her club Olympique Lyon reports that Van de Donk must rehabilitate for at least four months.

The Dutch women will return to action for the first time in April in the World Cup qualifiers, with games against Cyprus (April 8) and Belarus (12 April). The Orange competes with Iceland and the Czech Republic for first place in the group, good for a ticket for the 2023 World Cup in New Zealand and Australia.

Van de Donk also suffered a serious injury in March last year, then to her ankle.
