Best athletes of the year were recognized in Pinar del Río

With the presence of Osvaldo Vento Montiller, president of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation; The award ceremony for the best athletes of the year 2021 in the province was held in Pinar del Río.

The activity began with a special recognition to all the young medalists in the Pan-American event in Cali-Valle 2021, where the Pinar del Río delegation totaled three gold, one silver and six bronze medals.

Among the women, the best was the San Juan triplist Liadagmis Povea, who finished in a creditable fifth place at the Tokyo Olympic Games and won in several stops of the Diamond League.

Roniel Iglesias and Mijaín López were deserving of a standing ovation from all those present at the José Jacinto Milanés theater.

Roniel and Mijaín shared the award for the best athlete of the year, as both won the gold medal at the summer event in the Japanese capital.

Mijaín López was moved by the reception that the people of Pinar del Río gave him and praised his compatriot Roniel Iglesias.

Mijain lopez

The seven most outstanding athletes in the province in the year were honored: Lisandra Ordaz (chess), Lázaro Álvarez (boxing), Yarisley Silva (athletics), Yosvany Peña (wrestling), Yerisbel Miranda (chess), Arley Calderón (weightlifting ) and Liván Moinelo (baseball).

They also recognized Yasmany Izquierdo Rojas (swimming) and Alejandro Hernández Hernández (archery) as the most outstanding disabled athletes, from Anci and Aclifim, respectively.

Political and sports leaders of the territory participated in the meeting, as well as athletes, coaches and sports glories. The Pinar del Río sports movement closes a year full of notable national and international successes. In addition, all workers in the sector gave their support in the fight against Covid-19.
