Benitez steals the show from Parisian stars on a bad night

After a disappointing poster, PSG were held in check by Nice at Parc des Princes (0-0). Find the tops and flops of this match.

TOPS

Benitez impassable
While the Parc des Princes celebrated Gianluigi Donnarumma, who had just won the Yachine trophy, Walter Benitez was clearly the most prominent goalkeeper on the pitch. Vigilant in front of Mbappé and Gueye in the first period, the Argentinian goalkeeper saved the Nice house at the start of the second act. First by winning his duel against Benitez, then by pushing back a tense strike from Nuno Mendes. Irreproachable

The Dante-Todibo hinge held firm
Saved several times by his goalkeeper, Nice was nevertheless able to rely on the big game of his central hinge. Alongside Dante, especially precious in the air, Jean-Clair Todibo was particularly illustrated. With eight balls recovered (best total of the match) and three shots blocked, the former Barça player, vigilant until the end, often took the best of the Parisian attackers. His anticipatory qualities proved to be very useful in managing Mbappé’s calls in depth.

FLOPS

Another little PSG
As too often this season in Ligue 1, PSG has not been able to raise its level of play. And this time, the capital club was not saved by the flash of one of its stars. Apathetic in the first period then ineffective on returning from the locker room, the Parisians did not find collective or individual solutions to force the Nice lock. Mauricio Pochettino’s coaching had no effect on the outcome of another disappointing exit from the leader of the standings. Not enough to improve the image of the Argentine technician, whistled by part of the Parc des Princes at the end of the match.

A Parisian attacking trio with no idea
Neymar out, Mbappé, Messi and Di Maria were partners in the Parisian attacking trio. The three men, who have combined too rarely, generally missed their match. Drafts and without conviction. Two days after winning his seventh Ballon d’Or, presented to the public at the Parc des Princes before kick-off, Messi has had too little influence on the Parisian game, while his two friends were especially illustrated by their lack of efficiency. Often exiled on the left side, the French international was quickly annoyed and seemed tense throughout the match. Like many PSG supporters …

Dolberg’s Huge Failure
This is one of the (rare) strong images of this meeting. In difficulty after returning from the locker room, the Gym let the storm pass and could have opened the scoring before the hour mark. But that was without counting the enormous clumsiness of Kasper Dolberg. The Danish international, little in sight in the game, did the feat of sending his header to the post when he was alone against the empty goal, on a perfect cross from Boudaoui.
