Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund wants its professionals to renounce their wages again, according to a report by the “Ruhr Nachrichten”. Since December 28th, top-class sport has hardly been possible with spectators in Germany due to the corona measures. BVB is expected to lose up to four million euros in revenue for each home game in the empty stadium. In its original calculation, the Dortmund management expected a largely full capacity utilization from the second half of the year, i.e. from January, and only planned a minus of ten to 15 million euros for the financial year. The club could already tick off this self-imposed goal, the report said.

Professionals have already waived their salary twice

BVB has already been able to persuade its professional footballers to waive their wages twice. So far, the players have waived 8.25 million euros in salary in the preseason, and five million euros in the 2019/20 season. Club boss Hans-Joachim Watzke said this at the general meeting of Borussia Dortmund GmbH & Co. KGaA in early December. The big earners in the management of the Bundesliga team also made their contribution.

Borussia Dortmund KGaA had posted a loss of over 72 million euros in the past 2020/2021 financial year due to the lack of audience income in the pandemic. (dpa / ska)
