John de Jong, Frenkie de Jong’s father, thinks his son’s move to Bayern Munich is unlikely. In an interview, the Dutchman gave a curious reason for his assumption.
“The weather there is often miserable,” John de Jong told the General Newspaper about the possible switch options between Bayern and Manchester United: “Of course it’s about football, but that also plays a role.”
At the same time, he confirmed that five top European clubs had signed up. John de Jong did not mention names, however. “Of course I know Barcelona need money and a big offer for Frenkie could help, but I don’t think that’s going to happen anytime soon,” said de Jong.
Apparently, his son is currently not thinking of saying goodbye. “You’re having a great time in Barcelona,” he said, reporting that de Jong junior and his girlfriend are currently renovating a house near Camp Nou: “Life there is great.”
De Jong was from Ajax Amsterdam to the Catalans for 86 million euros in the summer of 2019 changed. In October 2020, the 38-time Dutch international extended his contract with Barca until 2026. This season, the 24-year-old has one goal and two assists in 19 competitive games.
