Barça remains the team that earns the most money for the distribution of television rights with 165.6 million euros, closely followed by Real Madrid (163.2) and already further behind by Atlético (130, 2), according to the data provided late this Wednesday by LaLiga. In the highest category, 1,444.7 million euros corresponding to last season were distributed, which represents an increase of 27 million compared to the previous year, even more marked by the covid.

The distribution of income from television rights is carried out based on what is indicated in Royal Decree 15/2015. LaLiga distributes the net income, that is, the expenses of management and marketing are subtracted from the gross income. Of that net, 90% goes to LaLiga Santander teams and 10% to LaLiga SmartBank clubs.

In First, 50% is divided equally and 25% based on sports results. The five previous seasons in LaLiga are taken into account. Each position and each season have a percentage. Being first is 17% and last 0.25%. Although the last five seasons are taken into account, the recent ones are given more importance (35% to the last and 15% to that of five seasons ago).

LaLiga, having until last season awarded the commercialization of the Copa del Rey, also includes in the distribution the importance of sports results in the KO tournament. The champion takes 22%. And as in the sports results of the League championship, in the Cup the results of the last five years are also taken into account.

The remaining 25% comes from social implantation. All clubs have to pay a minimum of 2% for this concept and a maximum of 20%. It is obtained through two criteria. One third is derived from the income from tickets and ticket offices (an average is made of the income obtained for this concept in the last five seasons). The remaining two thirds for the contribution of each club to generate value for audiovisual rights. In this, the audiences and the coefficients for their correction are taken into account, where the difference in the schedules of the teams, coincidences and whether it was open or paid broadcasts are seen.

Of the 10% that reaches Second Division clubs, the distribution of income is made with the same criteria as in First Division, but varying the percentages: 70% in equal parts, 15% due to social implantation and 15% due to sports results, although this category only takes into account the last season and the classification according to the order of the regular phase. Regarding the income from the Cup, the criterion of weighing the last five seasons is maintained.

Clubs must allocate part of their income to the obligations acquired: compensation fund for relegated teams, Federation (which will increase in the distribution of this season due to the Viana Pact), promotion of the LaLiga brand in national markets and international, funds to the CSD to cover the costs of public systems, aid for women’s football, Second B, associations and unions.
