The eighth edition of the “VIII Santeramo Open” badminton tournament organized by the local sports association was held in Santeramo at the gymnasium annexed to the ITC “Dell’Andro” Sport Experience Ideas.
The “Grand Prix” category tournament – according to the classification of the Italian Badminton Federation – attracted over sixty athletes from different Italian regions and the extraordinary participation of a foreign representative of the Maltese Badminton Federation.
Match officials Tommaso Cappiello (from Cascina-Pisa), Enrico Olivieri (from Palazzo San Gervasio-Potenza) and Roccangelo Bitetti (from Santeramo-Bari) refereed. Among the winners we note the exploits in the men’s singles by Andrea Franceschino (Gymnase-Catania) and in the women’s singles by Jenny Passerini (Senabadminton-Senigallia). Among the local athletes excellent access to the quarter-finals in the men’s singles of veteran Giuseppe Lassandro (Sport Experience Ideas-Santeramo) after a long challenge with teammate Domenico Porfido (Sport Experience Ideas-Santeramo). Among others, Angelo Silletti (President of the Santermano Sports Consortium) and Giuseppe Calò (National Councilor of the Italian Badminton Federation) attended the award ceremony. The ninth edition will always be held in Santeramo on 7 and 8 May 2022.
