Amallah, Kouamé, Ngadeu, Zorgane, the Pro League well represented, the Standard biggest provider

Postponed for a year because of the coronavirus, the Africa Cup of Nations is fast approaching. CAN 2021 will take place from January 9 to February 6, 2022 in Cameroon. A few weeks before the competition, the selections were announced. And the least we can say is that the Pro League will be well represented. Only four clubs from our D1A will not send any player. It is Zulte, Cercle, Club Bruges and Union Saint-Gilloise.

If some lists are still enlarged and will be restricted by the start of the competition, 14 of the 18 Pro League clubs are therefore sending at least one player to CAN at present. But some will be more penalized than others for the start of the second round of the championship.

Grosse embassy Rouche

Standard, despite their poor results this season, will be the biggest provider of Pro League players. Five rouches have indeed been called by their respective breeders.

It is Selim Amallah (Morocco), Collins you do (Cameroon), Moussa Sissako (Mali), Hamza Raffia (Tunisia) and Abdoul Tapsoba (Burkina Faso). The latter is however uncertain due to his injury caused during the match at the OHL.

Luka Elsner Will therefore have to compose without these five players while Standard will resume the competition with two shocks against Anderlecht and FC Bruges.

Anderlecht, Ghent, Antwerp and Charleroi lose a centerpiece

If numerically, Anderlecht, Ghent and Charleroi will be less impacted than the Rouches, Mauves, Buffalos, Great Old and Zebras still lose a very important player in their workforce.

Vincent kompany will have to do without Christian Kouame, selected with Ivory Coast alongside players like Sébastien Haller (Ajax), Nicolas Grandpa (Arsenal) and Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace). The Elephants are among the competition’s outsiders and Kouamé’s absence could therefore be long-lasting.

On the Ghent side, it is a pillar of the defensive hinge that will fly off for Cameroon. Michael Ngadeu has indeed been selected with the Indomitable Lions who will be keen to perform well at home. The Ghent residents also lose Sulayman Marreh, selected with The Gambia.

Defense is also where Antwerp loses an important player. Abdoulaye Seck will wear the Senegal jersey and will therefore be missed by the people of Antwerp.

On the Charleroi side, it is the midfield that will take a hit since Adam Zorgane is taken again with Algeria, big favorite of this CAN. But the Zebras will also lose their guardian since Hervé Koffi is repeated with Burkina Faso.

One or two selected everywhere else

All the other clubs will also lose one or the other player, some of whom are indisputable. This is the case of Seraing, for example, who will lose Ibrahima Cisse (Guinea) and Ablie Jallow (Gambia).

On the side of Kortrijk, the absence of Faiz Selemani (Comoros) is likely to be felt more than that of Muhammed Badamosi (Gambia).

Genk will have to do without the services of Joseph Paintsil, repeated with Ghana. Eupen also loses a Ghanaian with his goalkeeper Abdul Nurudeen.

We will also note the selections of Ostend Steven strong and Kenny Rocha (Cape Verde), Malinois Samuel Gouet (Cameroon), Trudonnaire Mory Konate (Guinea), Louvanists Sory Rude (Guinea) and Soufiane Chakla (Morocco) and Beerschotman Reda Halaimia (Algeria).
