2021 Asian Youth Games for the Disabled in Bahrain opens… – Korea Youth Congress News

The 2021 Bahrain Asian Youth Games with Disabilities kicked off on December 3 at 1 am (Korean time) at the Bahrain International Circuit.

Delegates from 30 countries in 9 sports participated in this event, and Korea dispatched 78 athletes from 8 sports.

At the opening ceremony, the Korean delegation entered the twentieth place in Arabic alphabetical order. As for the rider, Jonathan of badminton and Yunji Kim of swimming, who were selected and trained in the basic sports development project of the Korea Paralympic Association, took the lead.

On the 3rd, the first day of the tournament, the Korean team participated in goalball, badminton and boccia events. Jonathan (sport grade SL4), Kang Doo-hyeon, Lee Jung-su, and Ji Sang-hoon (SU5 or higher) participated in the men’s singles qualifier match in badminton, which was held from the morning.

Jonathan, Kang Doo-hyeon, and Lee Jeong-soo beat Avicari Prakasi (India), Tagal Santoso (Indonesia) and Tokimasa Nara (Japan) with set scores 2-0, respectively. Ji-Hoon Ji defeated Karan Panir (Indonesia) 2-1.

A smooth start continued in the Boccia event, which won the gold medal in the Paralympic Games for the ninth time in a row. Minkyu Seo (BC2) won 4-2 against Iman Sapuripram (Malaysia), and Sion Jeong (BC3) also beat Aloysius Gan (Singapore) 4-3.

Meanwhile, the men’s goalball team won against Iraq with a set score of 11-8, but the women’s team lost to Thailand 7-8 after a close match.
