Zamorano judo shines in Valladolid

This Saturday a regional ranking was held at the Pilar Fernández sports center in the Vallisoletana capital to draw the Castilla y León team that will represent Zamora in the Nacional in the children’s and cadet categories.

The “Zamora Caja Rural” team made up of the Gokyo and Club Judo Morales clubs traveled there.

The very positive balance, in the morning the children began by the Gokyo club, in the -50Kg category, Rubén De Castro participated, who despite being one of the smallest in their weight, began the competition by making a great fight, winning by Ippon. In the repechage match, he was unlucky and lost the option to fight for the medals.

In the -60Kg category, he had double representation, with Raúl Fernández who despite having a good fight, since a referee decision deprived him of taking advantage, being down in the first rounds. For his part, Diego Bruña, would perform a more than discreet performance, being eliminated in the repechage match.

On the part of the Judo Morales club the only representative was Elena Bahamonde in -44kg, who after two years without competing due to the pandemic could not resume the competition in a better way because she won all those who stood in front without giving any option to his rivals getting to the top of the podium, his performance was impressive.

In the afternoon, time for the cadets in this category, only the Judo Morales club had representation.

Álvaro del Arco started in -60kg performing a very serious competition, he reached the crossroads where if he won he would get into the final and after a few very intense minutes he could not achieve victory, contesting afterwards and winning a bronze that tastes of glory.

Sergio Rodrigo in -50kg also managed to hang the bronze making some very tough and complicated fights, only a mistake did not allow him to be a little higher.

Sara Ventosa in 63kg, the most difficult women’s category, had a very good championship after several fights, she reached the one that gave her the pass to the final and in a very even fight, only small details gave the victory to her rival, then she was able to recover and won the fight bronze with much superiority, another bronze for Sara.

Miriam Silvares in -48kg impressive her performance winning all the fights for Ippon (maximum score in Judo) until the final where she got an advantage that she knew how to endure until the end, getting another gold medal for the Zamorana expedition. Miriam is double congratulations because she has also just been called up with the Castilla y León team in the senior category to participate in the Spanish championship

With three bronze and two gold medals, the “Zamora Caja Rural” team ends this competition with at least two representatives from the Castilla y León team that will represent us in the Nacional.

The Zamorana Judo delegation wanted to congratulate “these magnificent athletes” and encouraged those who “are in the Spanish championship” where “we are sure they will give everything on the tatami”.
