Xavi struggles after Benfica draw: “Barca not worthy”

After a draw against Benfica, Barca are even threatened with being eliminated in the group stage of the Champions League. New coach Xavi quarreled afterwards.

FC Barcelona coach Xavi reacted disappointed to the division of points (0-0) with Benfica in the Champions League.

“We were clearly superior to Benfica and we played a great game,” the 41-year-old told reporters afterwards. “If we had scored, we would be talking about an excellent performance.”

Champions League: Barca likely need a win against Bayern

Before the final day of the group, the Blaugrana are two points ahead of Benfica in second place. Should the Lisbon team win their final group game against Dynamo Kiev, Barca will have to score three points at Bayern at the same time. A draw is not enough to advance due to the lost direct comparison.

“I’m still optimistic,” said Xavi fiercely. “We have talent and players who can make the difference. Unfortunately there was only one point today and that is not worthy of Barca.”

The finals for the round of 16 in Group E will take place on December 8th.
