Without using themselves thoroughly, the Patriots shut out Atlanta

Mac Jones threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Nelson Agholor for what was the only touchdown produced by the offense in the game the New England Patriots beat the Atlanta Falcons 25-0 on Thursday night.

The New England defense took care of the rest, completely nullifying the Falcons, and the Pats tacked on their fifth win to head into the postseason.

New England (7-4) didn’t look nearly as dominant as four days earlier, when they thrashed the Cleveland Browns 45-7. However, it was enough to control an anemic attack by Atlanta that has not scored a single touchdown in nearly nine quarters.

The Falcons (4-6) were knocked out for the first time since December 13, 2015, when they lost 38-0 to Carolina.

Matt Ryan was caught four times and saw two of his shipments intercepted. He thus had another disastrous performance, this time in primetime television.

It was just Sunday that he had the worst rating of his career in the Cowboys’ 43-3 beating of Atlanta. Dallas will face the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, while in the other stellar duel of the Week the Steelers will face the Chargers.
