Vitesse stunt also topic of conversation in Chelsea group app: ‘Not a fan of Spurs’

Current English international Mason Mount only played one season for Vitesse, but will never forget the Arnhem team. That Tottenham Hotspur recently lost to the Arnhem team was therefore big news at rival Chelsea, where Mount has now become a fixed value.

Father Tony Mount tells the Gelderlander about the app contact he had with his son after Vitesse’s Conference League stunt. This match was also a topic of conversation with the current Premier League leader. “At Chelsea they are not a fan of Spurs, are they. So Vitesse’s victory was already celebrated in the team’s group app.”

Mount senior is still grateful for the opportunity his son had in the 2017/18 season. “He has learned to take care of himself. Abroad, with a language barrier. He wanted that too. He wanted to get out of Chelsea’s comfort zone. He has become self-reliant. That year Vitesse made him a man.” The now 22-year-old midfielder got on well with the staff and with his teammates. “Thomas Buitink is still there. Mason thinks it’s great that he played against Tottenham.”

Father and son are still closely following Vitesse’s performance from England. “We really see a lot. And then we look at a great team. The passion, the position changes and that chasing the ball against Spurs was wonderful. Vitesse should have won both games.” The fact that this did not work out in London has reduced the chances of Conference League wintering a lot. Mount senior, however, firmly believes that Vitesse can stunt when visiting Stade Rennes. “Vitesse has a great opportunity. Rennes has been captured. With a victory, this group writes history.”
