Tottenham Hotspur embarrassed themselves against outsiders

In the European club rankings, Tottenham Hotspur is 12th, NS Mura 341st. The differences are huge. And yet the underdog from Slovenia caused a big surprise.

Tottenham Hotspur has embarrassed itself in the Conference League. The English top club lost on matchday 5 of Group G with 1: 2 at the Slovenian club NS Mura. Before that, Mura hadn’t scored a single point in four games.

Tottenham coach Antonio Conte rotated to nine positions. Only defender Japhet Tanganga and captain Harry Kane were again in the starting line-up compared to the game against Leeds United at the weekend. With Davinson Sanchez, Tanguy Ndombele and Dele Alli some prominent actors also played.

That’s how the game went

The first setback for Spurs came after just eleven minutes: Tomi Horvat put Mura in the lead. The answer came later in the second half. Harry Kane equalized (72nd). For a long time it looked as if it would stay that way. But in the fourth minute of stoppage time, Amadej Marosa caused the sensation and shot Mura to win against the Primus.

In the group table, Tottenham’s defeat means that Stade Rennes are certain group winners. The French have eleven points, Tottenham and Vitesse Arnheim follow with seven points, Mura with three. On the final day of the match, Tottenham will host Rennes, while Vitesse will have a home game against Mura.

In the event of a tie, the goal difference between the Spurs and the Dutch decides because in a direct comparison both teams have one win and one defeat and the goal difference is 3: 3. Currently, the difference still speaks for Tottenham (+3), as Vitesse scored two goals less (+1). But that can change, even if Arnhem shouldn’t underestimate the outsider from Slovenia.
