VPresident Herbert Hainer declared at the annual general meeting of FC Bayern Munich on the issue of Qatar sponsorship that the German soccer champions would fulfill the contract with Qatar Airways.

However, whether the association will continue its partnership with the state airline beyond 2023 is “far from being decided,” said Hainer on Thursday evening. CEO Oliver Kahn continued to vote for a dialogue with Qatar on the human rights issue. “Nothing happens overnight,” said the 52-year-old.

When Hainer stopped speaking after midnight and declared the meeting over, numerous members protested loudly. “Hainer out, Hainer out,” shouted the angry fans.

It’s the worst event I’ve ever seen at FC Bayern. “

The Vice-President’s provocative question

Of the team, only Leroy Sané (25 / gone after an hour) and coach Julian Nagelsmann (34) were there. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (66) has to cancel at short notice. The ex-chairman should have been honored, but the current corona situation is too risky for him.

Member Michael Ott wanted to introduce a motion to vote on the Qatar sponsorship. The club did not allow the application in advance. In the hall, too, Ott was put off for the time being when he presented his request. But he received loud applause from many members. His request was nevertheless thrown out. Vice President Dieter Mayer asked provocatively: “Do you want us to vote on Audi at the end of the day, or whether we play in the blue and white jersey?”

The hall was boiling. Loud boos echoed through the hall. One woman shouted, “The problem is, you don’t give a shit about human rights!” Again loud applause.

Club boss Oliver Kahn, however, had previously not used the word Qatar in his half-hour speech. He only said: “We welcome that and share this, this ever-increasing commitment of the fans to stand up for social issues.”

“We are Bavaria – and you are not,” shouted outraged members at the end. And also: “We are the fans you don’t want.”
