LOMBOK TENGAH, KOMPAS.com – The national anthem Indonesia Raya plays ahead of the World Superbike Race 2 at the Mandalika Circuit, Lombok, NTB, Sunday (21/11/2021).

When the song sounded, all the residents in the stands of the audience stood up and sang the anthem Indonesia Raya.

Monitoring Kompas.com, some spectators seemed moved and shed tears while singing the national anthem.

Adi Nia Mentari (50), a resident of Mataram City, admitted that he was touched and proud because a world-class race like the WSBK could be held in Lombok.

Moreover, the Mandalika Circuit will also host MotoGP in March 2022.

“It’s fun, good, really happy. It’s great that Lombok can hold a world tournament like this,” said Adi Nia Mentari, Sunday.

Spectators get goosebumps

He also admitted that he had goosebumps and shed tears when he heard the song Indonesia Raya sung by all the audience who came to the circuit.

“Oh goosebumps, it’s really annoying because we’re doing it like this. So goosebumps. Very proud, proud,” said Adi Nia.

The local resident, Samsul Bahri (41). He was touched when he joined in singing the anthem Indonesia Raya.

Economic revival

Samsul, who is also the Chairman of the Mandalika Hotel Association, said that there are event WSBK and IATC as the beginning of economic and tourism revival in Indonesia after the COVID-19 pandemic lasted for more than two years.

Samsul said that the occupancy of hotels and homestays around Mandalika when the IATC was held reached 75 percent.

During the WSBK moment, the number increased to 100 percent.

Around 2,500-3,000 hotel rooms and homestays in Mandalika are fully occupied.

“As people of Lombok and Indonesia, of course, we are very proud of the existence of this Mandalika circuit. And until now we don’t believe it, we are not sure that it is in Lombok,” said Samsul.

The WSBK Race 2 Mandalika, which was originally scheduled to be held at 15.00 WITA, was delayed due to heavy rains that flushed the race arena.

Although it was postponed, the WSBK race was resumed at around 16.35 WITA in good condition ‘wet race’.

As in Race 1 which was held on Sunday afternoon, Race 2 was again won by the Kawasaki team racer from Northern Ireland, Jonathan Rea.
