The Phoenix Suns on a 16-game winning streak

NBA 2021/22 – Tonight, the Phoenix Suns took over Eastern Conference leaders the Brooklyn Nets in a close, high-level game (final score 113-107). Chris Paul’s teammates thus won their 16th victory in a row. Uncompromising, they’re just one win away from matching the longest winning streak in their franchise history.

1 victory and 3 losses. This is how the Suns started their season in October. Lost matches against the Kings and against Blazers not yet established had then brought more concern than insurance. But since, Coach Monty Williams’ men have transformed. The automatisms of last season quickly returned. Devin Booker has returned to his standards (23.9 points today) and Chris Paul became the league’s top passer (10.1 assists) and among the best interceptors (2.1 interceptions), as in his best years.

The finalist workforce almost intact

The Suns are a new team proving that continuity is often king in the NBA. This summer, they made very few changes to their workforce. The players who achieved the feat of reaching the final last season, with a few slight exceptions, are still here. This includes the stars (Devin Booker, Chris Paul, DeAndre Ayton) as rotation players, less empowered but just as important (Cameron Johnson, Cameron Payne, Frank Kaminsky…). The players arrived at the start of the season by already knowing their teammates, the systems and already having automatisms between them. Which greatly helps at this historic start to the season.

With 16 straight wins, the Suns are among the greatest series in history. Since 2010, they are only the seventh team to reach such a total. The latest: the Milwaukee Bucks, who had won 18 straight from November to December 2019. Which could become the Suns’ next goal. The best winning streak – 33 in a row by the 1971/72 Lakers – will be harder to come by. In addition, the schedule for Arizona players is going to get complicated, asthey will face the Warriors of Stephen Curry twice in three days, league leaders. The opportunity to show what they really have in their stomachs. Their first confrontation, on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, will not be missed under any circumstances.
