The ‘2021 National Multicultural Family Badminton Tournament’, which strengthens bonds between multicultural families through sports and provides a place for communication, will be held on the 27th at 12:40 pm at Goyang Gymnasium in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do.

Hosted by Yonhap News, the national key news agency, Goyang City Sports Association, and sponsored by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, Goyang City, Korea Health and Family Promotion Agency, and Yonhap News TV, this contest is attended by 300 multicultural families across the country to determine the strongest.

Unlike last year, when the size of the competition was drastically reduced due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) pandemic, this year, the number of participants will be increased and various events and events will be prepared.

However, in accordance with the government’s step-by-step recovery of daily life (with Corona) policy, only athletes who submit gene amplification (PCR) test results within 48 hours will participate. Vaccines can participate without a separate test.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, participants are allowed to enter after undergoing body temperature measurement and using hand sanitizer. Athletes compete while wearing masks. We also carry out quarantine work before and after the opening and closing.

At the opening ceremony, Yonhap News President Sung Ki-hong, Vice Minister Kim Gyeong-seon of the Ministry of Recreation, Goyang Mayor Lee Jae-joon, Goyang City Sports Association Chairman Na Sang-ho, and former men’s basketball player Lee Seung-jun will encourage the team and their families.

Before the main match, a demonstration match between the Taekwondo Demonstration Team and Yonex Badminton Team in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do will also be held.

It will be held in two events: general singles (men and women) and couple’s doubles, from the preliminary round to the final.

All participants will be provided with T-shirts, participation souvenirs, and snacks.

This event, which has been held every year since 2010, celebrates its 12th anniversary this year, with the purpose of helping multicultural families to become healthy physically and mentally and to establish themselves as members of our society.
