The Mexico Open, the new official tournament of the PGA Tour in 2022

As happened until last year, our country will once again have a second PGA Tour tournament when the Mexico Open is officially presented this Monday, to be held from April 28 to May 1, at the Vidanta field, in Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit.

The Mexico Open has as its origin the Mexican Golf Open, which dates back to 1944 and is considered the most traditional tournament in Mexico. The 2022 edition will appear on the PGA TOUR calendar for the first time as an official FedExCup event, offering 500 FedExCup points to the winner and a purse of $ 7.3 million. The 132-player field will include 12 exemptions, with at least four players from Latin America.

The new name and venue of the tournament were announced during a press conference, with the presence of Fernando Lemmen-Meyer, President of the Mexican Golf Federation; Iván Chávez, Executive Vice President of Grupo Vidanta; John Norris, Senior Vice President of Tournament Business Affairs of the PGA TOUR, and Benjamín Salinas Sada, Vice President of the Board of Directors of Grupo Salinas. Also in attendance were PGA TOUR members Carlos Ortiz and Abraham Ancer.

Both Ortiz (2020 Vivint Houston Open) and Ancer (2021 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational) lifted the PGA TOUR titles during the 2020-21 PGA TOUR season, becoming the third and fourth Mexicans to win on the PGA TOUR.

Ancer, who played for the International Presidents Cup Team in 2019, recently qualified for his third consecutive TOUR Championship in 2020-21, finishing ninth in the FedExCup.

Its growth has been exponential, currently, The First Tee Mexico has 9 chapters and has had a positive impact on more than 250 young people, promoting key social values ​​such as honesty, respect, trust, integrity, perseverance and hard work. team up.

Due to the pandemic, the WGC Mexico Championship, which had been held since 2017, at the Chapultepec Golf Club could not be held last year, and the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba was the only one that had been held in our country without interruption since 2007. .

Today Mexico is partnering again with the PGA Tour to have two tournaments in the current 2021-2022 season on the best circuit in the world.
