The last farewell to Luigino Ferraris, the doctor who brought judo to Novara

Mourning in the world of Judo for the 94-year-old death of Luigi «Luigino» Ferraris, the co-founder in 1954 of the Judo Novara company. Anesthetist in the hospitals of Omegna and Asti, as well as practicing judoca, Ferraris had been a partisan in the Turin area. “Dad died in his sleep on Thursday in the house in the Crabbia hamlet of Pettenasco – says his son Alex -. He was very close to Novara, he had lived in the very central Via Carotti. One of the last dishes he wanted to taste was the Novara-style paniscia ».

«As a medical student in Turin – explains the son – dad was given the task of setting up a section of Judo Turin in Novara. He succeeded in the project by creating Judo Novara while interrupting his studies in medicine. At the age of over thirty he returned to study, graduating and specializing in anesthesia ». In Asti he met Olga who became the wife and mother of the children, Alex and Delia. Recalling his father Adalgiso’s career as a pianist, composer and arranger in St. Petersburg and London, Ferraris cultivated a passion for music to the point of suggesting to his children to graduate in piano and violin. The funeral took place today – Monday 29 November – at 3 pm in the parish church of Pettenasco. The ashes will be buried next to parents Adalgiso and Adele, in a London cemetery. r.l.
