“It is a gala that brought together our peaceful, indigenous culture, our urban culture in Cali, which will have an orchestra, dance, theater, circus and which will be very well developed with an entirely local production, it will also have a pyrotechnic party at the end,” said the mayor of Cali, Jorge Iván Ospina, on the ceremony.

Despite the fact that in other areas of Cali the atmosphere of the Games is not felt so much, the mayor stressed that the city’s hotel occupancy stands at 95% in a non-tourist season, which “helps us to renew economic mobility from the city”.

Thus, the Games that opened yesterday will feature an authentic selection of the new sports figures from 41 countries after a long five-month uncertainty due to the postponement of the event due to the covid-19 pandemic.
