If the health context has weighed heavily on the activity of judo, judokas, athletes and supervisors, are looking forward with determination. A dynamism that ran through the general assembly of this section of Hiriburuko ainhara, held on Friday, November 19.

The numbers are raised to around forty, after a very difficult 2020-2021 season. The competitions are gradually resuming, which will promote the motivation of the judokas, and attract new licensees.

If the state of health has had a profound effect on judo activity, judokas, athletes, and tutors look forward boldly. The General Assembly of the Ainhara department of the Capital was held on 19 November.

The membership is approaching forty, next to the very difficult 2020-2021 season. The competitions will be restarted gradually, which will boost the motivation of the judokas and attract new members.

President Laurence Delplang did not avoid the difficulties, starting with the weakened workforce following the difficulty related to contact sports. “The section has been able to adapt, through sessions outside, or around non-contact sports practices, such as Taïso, based on traditional exercises in preparation for judo” recalled the president. The 2020-2021 season, with interrupted sessions, took place by applying the protocol to the letter, including taking the temperature of the children or disinfecting the mats after each training session.

“The morale of the judokas has been affected and the numbers have fallen, during the past year but also for the current season”. While it can accommodate about sixty judokas, judo currently brings together less than forty licensees, with strong disparities from one age category to another, and this while baby-judo welcomes children from 5 years old.

The president also thanked the municipality for the authorizations to train outside, for the decryption of the regulations and the technical and logistical support.

While the Judo section of Hiriburuko Ainhara depends on the Angloy Dojo, Michel Polidano, the treasurer of the latter, recalled the possibility for the licensees of Hiriburuko Ainhara to come to train or enjoy the activities in Anglet or Villefranque. This pooling would allow the judokas to meet new partners.

It is now towards the gradual resumption of competitions that the enthusiasm is turning, competitions which should boost the morale of the judokas. Beyond the next internal tournament on December 12, the section is relaunching, on the extra-sporting side, the sale of Antton chocolates or the galette in January …

Former judoka since he tried judo in the 1970s, at the creation of the Dojo, Mr. Mayor Alain Iriart recalled the virtues of this martial art, “technique, skill, respect, combativeness”, also congratulating the office for its energy in these difficult times, and the need to pool practices and infrastructures with the surrounding municipalities.
