The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) issued a silver coin alluding to the Soccer World Cup in Qatar, within the framework of the World Cup Commemorative Coin Programs.
The minting of this piece refers to the twenty-second edition of the Cup that will be held in the months of November and December 2022 in the Asian country. The BCRA participated in the programs by minting coins from the 2006 German Cup, South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018.
The issue for the national market is 2,500 units, which were minted by the National Mint and Stamp Factory-Real Casa de Moneda de España.
The obverse of the coin “Qatar 2022 ″ –as the monetary authority writes it– presents in the central field the allegory of the decisive moment, the starting point for the ball to start the journey and fulfill the goal dream, according to the team’s explanation who was in charge of the design of the piece. On the right edge it reads “República Argentina”.
The reverse illustrates the number 5 that refers to the distinctive back number of the shirt and above it, the net that is the final destination of the play itself. Below number 5, the word “PESOS” and on the upper edge, the legend “FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022TM”. In the exergue, the year of minting “2021”.
The coin is made of 925 silver, has a face value of 5 pesos, a diameter of 40 millimeters, weighs 27 grams and its edge is striated.
Presentation includes case, acrylic capsule and certificate of authenticity.
The issue for the national market is 2,500 units, which were minted by the National Mint and Stamp Factory-Royal Mint of Spain.
This issue also included the minting of 10-peso gold coins that will be marketed internationally. In this case, the BCRA explained, “the obverse presents in the central field the allegory of the decisive moment, the starting point for the ball to start its journey and fulfill the goal dream; on the right edge it reads “República Argentina”. As for the motif on the reverse, “in its central imprint it illustrates the number 10 that refers to the distinctive dorsal numbers of the jerseys and on these, the net that is the final destination of the play itself. Below the number 10, the word ‘pesos’ and on the upper edge, the legend ‘FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022TM’. In the exergue, the year of minting ‘2021 ′ ”.

The design was carried out by the Strategic Planning Department of Tesoro – Numismatic Emissions Sub-Department of the BCRA, which is similar in both metals. For the acquisition of the numismatic piece of silver, the monetary authority has available the website of the monetary agency.
