the Belgian women’s team finished 6th, the men ninth

Belgium were beaten 2-1 by Brazil in a classification match for places 5 and 6 at the Women’s Padel World Championships on Saturday in Doha, Qatar. The men took 9th place.

Astrid Dierckx and Evelyne Dom bowed 6-2, 7-5 before Helena Wyckaert and Elyne Boeykens do restore the tie with a 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 victory.

In the decisive duel for 5th place, Dorien Cuypers and Marie Maligo were beaten on a 6-3 double. Despite everything, the Belgian women’s team, 10th in the world ranking and led by Thomas Deschamps, finished in a nice 6th place.

The final saw Spain win a 6th world title for women thanks to a victory against Argentina, 8 crowns on the clock.

On the men’s side, the Belgian team took the measure of Germany in a meeting for the 9th place final thanks to the victories of the pairs Laurent Montoisy / Jerome Peeters and Clément Geens / François Gardier.

As with the ladies, the Spaniards and Argentines faced each other in the final. The Spaniards also won the world title.
