Switzerland keep promise and offer chocolate to Northern Ireland for draw against Italy (VIDEO)

The “Nati” posted a video to social media on Wednesday showing her trainer Murat Yakin making treats to send to Belfast.

It was his way of showing his gratitude for Northern Ireland’s 0-0 draw against Italy on the final day of European qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. This result, combined with Switzerland’s 4-0 victory over Bulgaria, saw Yakin’s men secure their direct qualification, with a two-point lead, and sent the second-placed European champions Italy back to dams.

Ian Baraclough’s men will receive 9.3 kilograms of Swiss chocolate for preventing the European champions from scoring for 93 minutes.

Switzerland had previously pledged a giveaway after paying tribute to their squad during post-match celebrations at the hotel in Lucerne, where they performed Sweet Caroline, the 1969 Neil Diamond hit that became a staple song during Northern Ireland matches.

The draw for the European play-offs for the 2022 World Cup will take place on Friday.
