It is a common misconception that in order for anyone to have a successful NBA career, their height has to be over 6 feet. Several NBA legends like Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Shaquille O’Neal and Wilt Chamberlain were over seven feet tall. However, in a league of big men, a five-foot-three point guard has caught on. While they considered even 6-foot-tall players to be short by the league average, he reached the league. And his name is Muggsy Bogues. Legend of Charlotte Hornets, Bogues was a longtime teammate of Dell Curry, the father of Seth and Stephen Curry. He has witnessed the growth of the greatest shooter in basketball history. So of course Stephen has a special relationship with Bugs.

Curry updated his Instagram story in honor of a player he said had “no chance of reaching” the NBA. And this is none other than his uncle Bogues. Stephen Curry grew up watching Muggsy play with his dad at the Charlotte Hornets. They were both longtime teammates and still are close friends.
Even Muggsy sometimes can’t believe the boy he flew with like a plane in the locker room ended up being the best shooter in the world.

Muggsy Bogues was a key figure in the City of Charlotte’s long-term success in professional basketball. He played with a lot of heart on the pitch and remained active in the community after his career ended. He coached Charlotte Sting of the WNBA and the boys’ basketball team at United Faith Christian Academy. When the Hornets relaunched in 2014, he was also a franchise ambassador.
Therefore, as part of the NBA’s 75th anniversary celebrations, NBA TV aired “Muggsy: Always Believe,” a documentary about Bugs as part of their Basketball Stories series.
