Singles and doubles success for Kim Clijsters

Kim Clijsters and Kirsten Flipkens were decisive Saturday in the first victory of their New York Empire team, Saturday against the Springfield Lasers (19-16), in their 6th meeting of World Team Tennis.

Kim Clijsters didn’t give the American a chance Caty McNally (WTA 137) by winning 5-0. Clijsters and Flipkens went on to win their double by the same score of 5-0 against McNally and Muhammad.

After five straight losses in this exhibition tennis competition, the New York Umpire team scored their first victory. In the standings, New York Empire is despite everything fifth and last (1v-5d). The Orange County Breakers are first (5v-2d) just ahead of the Springfield Lasers (4v-2d).

All World Team Tennis matches are played on the courts at Indian Wells Tennis Garden, California. The competition continues until November 28. The first two at the end of the group stage will compete for the title.
