Roland Garros and the nuggets to discover

“Every year, it’s a great chance to have a little bit of the Avignon festival”, enthuses Patrick Lebreton before the start of the 2021 edition of the Komidi festival. And for good reason, 19 national and international pieces will be performed on the southern boards. Local creation is not left out with 20 shows presented.

13 years of history

For 13 years, the southern municipality has decided to have a major cultural event. It was ultimately the Komidi association that succeeded in convincing the municipality to embark on the adventure. A support role that the city does not play alone, since the Region, ZEOP, the Founding Patrons Club and the Talent Reunion Fund join in the fun.

For Nathalie Thiaw-Kine, president of the Fonds Réunion des Talents, supporting this festival was obvious. “The theater is a factor of personal development. Our common value with Komidi is to make it accessible, in particular to the most distant audiences”, she emphasizes. For this reason, many shows will be performed in schools in the establishments of the city.

Philippe Guirado, the president of the Komidi association, confirms that education is one of the three major axes of the festival. A desire close to that of giving the possibility to different audiences to go to the theater. Finally, the last important point of the organization is to allow artists from Réunion to meet their international counterparts.

To give birth to vocations

To symbolize the impact that Komidi can have on the youth of Saint-Joseph, the actress Mathilde Hasemann was present for the launch of the festival. During the first editions, then 8 years old, she had attended school performances. This discovery of the theater would turn her life upside down since, this year, it is as an actress that she returns to the play “Mais cette nuit, vivre!”

A desire to promote pei talents confirmed by Frédéric Maillot, regional vice-president. He who, when he was appointed to the Culture Commission, had said he wanted “put in the air all the little Soans of the island”. It is therefore the actor part of “Petit Piaf” that the chosen one is honoring this time.

“We support the theater. There is culture in all the districts of the island. Culture is how you interact with a territory. The theater helps neighborhood youth to flourish”, specifies Frédéric Maillot.

Tribute to Roland Garros

To launch the 2021 edition, it is the play “Danlor, the insolent Roland Garros” which has the privilege of taking the stage first. Danlor, an anagram of Roland, was the nickname the aviator had given himself to hide his sporting exploits from his father. To write and interpret the play, actors and director relied on the correspondence of the illustrious character.

“In 30 years, he had a richer life than someone in their 70s”, explains actor Florient Jousse who lends him his features. The latter explains that Danlor’s adventure began in February 2020 to be presented on the island. The Covid episode having disrupted this project, it was finally in metropolitan France that the first performance of the show took place. Last night’s show is therefore considered “the first of the heart” by the team.

Saint-Joseph now linked to the theater

Patrick Lebreton reaffirms the attachment he has for this festival and his wish to see it take root in his town. The city councilor, taking the example of Mathilde Hasemann, recalls the role that the event plays for the youth of the city.

“We want to go further in the discovery of nuggets. Danlor is a concentrate of talents in a show. All this is possible thanks to the patrons who want to develop the talents of pei”, he assures.

The talent, Saint-Joseph will host it until December 4. So at € 4 instead, why go without?
