Reducing the digital, socioeconomic and educational gap, challenges for the Atlantic Copper Foundation for next year

The Board of the Atlantic Copper Foundation has approved a budget of 570,850 euros within its Action plan for next year for which it has set itself the objective of reducing the digital, socioeconomic and educational gap of the most disadvantaged. To this end, it will encourage programs aimed at supporting activities related mainly to regulated education and environmental education, culture, sports and local entities.

In its last meeting of the year, the founding collegiate body has analyzed the applications and projects received since the last board of trustees, betting on “actions that aim to reduce the digital, socioeconomic and educational gap between the most disadvantaged sectors and actions related to sport to facilitate the integration of people with disabilities while instilling values ​​that help reduce inequalities “, as highlighted by the president of the Atlantic Copper Foundation, Heliodoro Mariscal. In this meeting, Esther Alonso, general director of Sustainability and Energy Transition, has been elected a member of the body, which has also renewed the voice of the mayor of Huelva, Gabriel Cruz.



The general director of the Atlantic Copper Foundation, Antonio de la Vega, made the balance of the year 2021, where the face-to-face actions were resumed, and detailed each of the activities carried out during the year. In general terms, De la Vega highlighted the consolidation of the Foundation’s support for educational, sports, social and related activities in the Environment and Biodiversity in the Marismas del Odiel area.

Challenges of the Foundation

According to the approved budgets, Regulated Education and Environmental Education will be the strategic axes that channel the highest spending in 2022: six out of every ten euros budgeted by the Foundation. The second place is occupied by Culture, with 13.6% of the budget. It is followed by the Sports Sponsorship Program, with 11.8% of the total; Acción Social, with 8.3%, and other agreements, with 6%.

Regarding the educational sponsorship program, the Foundation will continue for another year the collaborations with educational centers, the programs of Scholarships Student Aid, actions to promote internships for students in professional and university training in companies; as well as collaboration with the University (UHU, UNED and UNIA) and with the College of Physicians. Likewise, and after recovering the visits to the Copper Interpretation Center, the Educational Program History of Metallurgy in the province of Huelva will be maintained, in collaboration with the Museum of Huelva.

Reduce the digital divide

In education, the Foundation’s commitment to reducing the digital divide has been demonstrated, working together with the Territorial Delegation of Education through projects to facilitate the labor insertion of people with disabilities and others aimed at reinforcing learning students with potential in disadvantaged areas through online tutoring.

Regarding the chapter on Promotion of knowledge of the industrial reality and its natural environment, through this section Environmental Education activities will be developed framed in the Plan of visits and activities in the Marismas del Odiel Natural Area of schoolchildren and different groups in the province of Huelva. At this point, the projects Escuela de exploradores and My marsh, my school have been consolidated for more than 10 years, as well as other lines of research and actions to regenerate the natural space.

Regarding cultural sponsorships, collaborations with the Ibero-American Film Festival, the Latitudes Association and other entities, also including in this chapter the short story contest Speaking in Copper, of a biennial nature. For the next fiscal year, the Foundation plans to launch the special project El Rocío Virtual Museum, in collaboration with the Hermandad Matriz de Almonte.

Through the Sports Sponsorship Program, the Foundation will support initiatives that promote sports, social and solidarity values ​​among the youngest Huelva citizens. In particular, support will be given to the sports schools of Recreativo de Huelva, sports foundations, base sports clubs, the Nautical Schools of the Maritime Club of Huelva, the KilosxKm Children’s Race and other entities (King’s Tennis Cup, Solidarity Badminton Tournament, etc.).

Also in sports matters, the Foundation’s support for the badminton, a sport that has a relevant role in Huelva for our Olympic champion, Carolina Marín, and for hosting the Huelva capital the World Cup this December. Through badminton, inclusive sports programs “without barriers” will be explored together with the Andalusian Federation and the implementation in 2022 of a scholarship program for unfavorable boys and girls with the Ciudad de Basketball Club will be studied. Huelva for the little ones.

Local Entities

The Help Program for Local Entities, whose objective is to collaborate with institutions that have a decisive impact on the social development of Huelva and its province, will be channeled through the following social entities: Proyecto Hombre, Hermanas de la Cruz, Asylum for the elderly , Ciudad de los Niños, Spanish Association Against Cancer, Red Cross, Valdocco Foundation and others.

Lastly, the Foundation will maintain the collaboration or granting of financial, technical or other aid to other programs, whether of a charitable, cultural or sports nature, when they coincide with the purposes of the Foundation.
