Ratiopharm Ulm celebrates its first Eurocup victory against Venice

Ratiopharm Ulm scored its first victory on the third day of the Eurocup – despite a 21-point deficit at the break. Crailsheim, on the other hand, suffered the next defeat.

The Ulmer coached by Jaka Lakovic won against Umana Reyer Venice with 90:83 (28:49) after extra time. Jaron Blossomgame (17 points) triumphed in the closing stages, Semaj Christon (19 points) advanced to the top scorer.

Ulm meanwhile 20 counters behind

In the first half, the home side failed to get a grip on the guests’ three shooters: After a good 15 minutes, Venice had already hit eleven times from outside and was already there to a 20-point difference. In the third round, however, the omens changed, the Ulmer marked 29 points in that section of the game. Above all, the German international Karim Jallow (18 points) set accents after the break.

In the final phase of the fourth quarter, Ulm got the momentum thanks to a 13-3 run. Venice came back and equaled at 22 seconds to play 67:67 – extra time. There Jaron Blossomgame scored two threesomes for Ulm, and the hosts made the decision with a 12-2 run.

Crailsheim shows changeable performance

At the Hakro Merlins Crailsheim, however, things are not going so well. The second home game in the FIBA ​​Europe Cup was also lost. Crailsheim suffered a 77:86 (40:51) defeat against the Danish team Bakken Bears. After four matchdays, coach Sebastian Gleim’s team in Group G has a record of 2-2 wins – like each of the four clubs.

Already at the break, the hosts received 51 points. With a 2:11 run in the middle of the second quarter, the Merlins also had to tear off. Only in the third round did the Crailsheimers turn the game: A 22:10 gave them their first lead since the first few minutes.

In the fourth quarter, however, the hosts’ offensive stalled, with one and a half minutes from time the Merlins were behind with nine points difference – too big a deficit. Crailsheim won the first leg in Denmark three weeks ago 91:78.
