Cali, Nov 29 (RHC) – Eleven Cubans will compete this Tuesday on the opening day of athletics at the I Junior Pan American Games Cali-Valle 2021, among them the discóbolas Silinda Morales and Melany Matheus, candidates for the gold and silver medals.

In addition to Silinda (number one of all those entered with 63.17 m) and Matheus (second with 59.34), the javelin player Yarobis Contreras and the long jumper Yanisley Carrión will also be in the finals.

Contreras, 21, has a 69.30 m shipment as the best registration record this year, and to reach the podium he will have to greatly improve that mark, since six of the 10 competitors have better marks.

Something similar happens to the slender Carrión, as it holds the seventh record of the 10 registered (6.20 m).

The other Cubans who will perform this Tuesday at the opening of the athletics at the emblematic Pascual Guerrero stadium will share in qualifying or cumulative events.

They are Yan Carlos Hernández, who will be in the first five events of the decathlon, Jens Fernández and Laura Moreira, in the 100 m series, and Ariliannis Colas, Darielys Sentella, Lázaro Rodríguez and Yoao Illas, in 400 hurdles.

In the athletics tournament of Cali-Valle 2021, more than 400 athletes from 31 countries will compete and the champions will obtain direct tickets for the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile-2023.
