At 21 hours 54 minutes and 14 seconds on Monday, November 22, 2021, in Martinique (on Tuesday 23, at 2 hours 54 minutes and 14 seconds in mainland France), Sébastien Rogues and Matthieu Souben crossed with the «Primonial »The finish line of the 15th edition of the Transat Jacques Vabre Normandie Le Havre in first position in the Ocean Fifty category. The duo spent 15 days, 13 hours, 27 minutes and 14 seconds traveling the 5,800 notional miles from Le Havre to Fort-de-France at an average speed of 15.40 knots, but they actually traveled 6,536.56 miles at 17, 50 knots.

In the dark of night, illuminated by the full moon and drenched by a light rain, «Primonial» crossed the arrival of the Transat Jacques Vabre 2021 anchored at the entrance to the bay of Fort-de-France.

Sébastien Rogues: “We are happy with the effort made, we have given ourselves, without keeping anything, and it has paid off. It’s great. Spending 15 days on the boat with Matthieu was a pleasure. We have exactly the same conception of navigation, we are always in phase on the way to use a boat, on the rhythm, the tempo. The difference was made in many places, we needed to be rigorous. We arrived with a boat that has not suffered any breakage, nothing. Maybe we lost the cap of the pen, but that “That’s all. These are rare moments in life. Let’s enjoy it, savor it.”

Matthieu Souben: “The human adventure, the sports adventure, is full of emotions at the same time. We have produced a very, very good copy, so it is also the pleasure of a job well done. Not having had problems, or having managed them. We did not expect it to be easy, we said before the start that there were no favorites. We are very happy, it is a very beautiful regatta, we have not finished savoring it yet. This ocean liner has been tough because it has been long, longer than expected. It has required a lot of commitment, the chess game in the Atlantic started as soon as we passed Ushant, which is very early. We have left a lot of energy and we have come to sack “.

Two hours later the «Koesio» Erwan Le Roux and Xavier Macaire would arrive, who invested 15 days, 15 hours, 55 minutes and 12 seconds in traveling the 5,800 theoretical miles from Le Havre at an average speed of 15.30 knots, in It actually traveled 6,626.30 miles at 17.63 knots. Their difference with the first was 2 hours 27 minutes and 58 seconds.

For Erwan Le Roux the regatta has been: “We had a great regatta with Xavier aboard the« Koesio ». We have not given up, we have encouraged the leadership and we have been protagonists. Then in the passage to Tenerife, Madeira, where« Primonial »chose a different option and had an advantage up to 200 miles. They sailed terrific, they were fast at all times and they deserved the victory. I was surprised by their speed and strategic success. Well done to them. “

To have a good regatta, you need good competitors and I think that with Leyton, “Primonial” and “Solidaires in Peloton – Arsep”, and the whole class in general, it was quite close. There were no big differences and the regatta was intense. This second place suits us perfectly.

The figarista Xavier Macaire has been very happy with this second place: “Super satisfying. We wanted to do well, but we didn’t really know where we were. Very quickly, from the first night, we were in the lead, and after two days we were in the lead. We stayed there for a few days. It has been a great adventure, a great boat, great companion, great skipper, great regatta, I’m delighted! I’m very happy with this participation with Erwan, on this great boat and this gigantic route.

We do our best while staying on our toes. An ocean liner is very demanding. Now we are used to it and it is becoming normal. But is not. It is still a hard test for the body, fatigue, in humid and hot conditions with efforts to do in the maneuvers, thoughts to have in the strategies. However, we arrived with a clear head and fresh and I think that is what you have to do to get a result.

It is always a pleasure to come back from an ocean liner, a lot has happened. They were fifteen days of regatta that mark a life, so obviously it is something to which we must return “.

On board the Ultime 32/23 «Gitana 17» Franck Cammas and Charles Caudrelier tried to be the first sailboat to cross the finish line in first position of the entire fleet of the 15th Transat Jacques Vabre. They did not succeed because the route reserved for these super maxi trimarans was the longest of all, of about 7,500 theoretical miles but on the chart they sailed 9,262.13 miles.

Yes they have achieved in the Ultime 32/23 Class, «Gitana 17» crossed the finish line in Fort-de-France after 16 days, 1 hour, 49 minutes and 16 seconds, at an average speed of 20.51 knots, which was actually 24.01 knots relative to the route they described. And no less important is that they have remained in the first position since last November 9, 98% of the time of the regatta.

Franck Cammas, always cautious in his statements: “We didn’t make many mistakes, the boat behaved well. We have been racing hard for 17 days and we have come up with a boat that is at 100%. Regarding the competition, we did not know what it would be like and our confidence has grown day by day. Yesterday we had a bit of stress, with a difficult weather situation for us. We fell into an area with no wind and behind our «Banque Populaire XI» and the «SVR-Lazartigue» were able to gain 200 miles in 12 hours, so we started to They finally had the same problem as us much later.

The main thing for me is to continue to have one more victory than Charles. [Risas; Franck tiene ahora cuatro victorias, Charles tres, en la Transat Jacques Vabre]. It is true that it is a race that is going well for us. It’s easy because it has been managed well, it has been well prepared, it has been well run, and we will have to find all these elements at each new start of the regatta. “

Charles Caudrelier, very measured: “We arrived in good shape. Once we got scared, because we had an engine failure that left us without power. We thought to stop in Cape Verde, but in the end we managed to fix it. We were not at 100% of the boat’s potential all the time, but not too far. We have to congratulate our ground weather routers, because it wasn’t always easy for them, they did a really good job. It’s the first time I’ve seen Franck spend so little time at the card table discussing the choices.

I think it had never gone so well between the two, there were no bad moments, it was perfect. We trusted each other, we agreed on decisions, on risk management, on the choice of candles. It is really the maturity of the project, not only of us, but also of the team. We have been working on this for three years ”.
