Fifteenth day of the Transat Jacques Vabre regatta with the fleet divided between the eastern Atlantic Ocean with the Ocean Fifty, Ultime 32/23 and IMOCA, and the western one with the Class40; the ones closest to the arrival in Fort-France being the 50-foot trimarans.
Gliding over the northern line of the northeast exclusion zone of the South American coasts, the multihulls of the Ocean Fifty and Ultime 32/23 Classes sail their last leg towards the island of Martinique at an average speed of about twenty knots.
“Primonial” is 145 miles from Fort-France with an advantage over the Ocean Fifty “Koesio” and “Leyton” of 65 and 82 miles respectively. The organization estimates that Sébastien Rogues and Matthieu Souben’s trimaran will cross the finish line in first position after 12 p.m. on Monday, November 22, 2021.
Rogues and Souben have put more pace aboard the ‘Primonial’ over the past 24 hours, doubling their lead over second and third placed as a result.
Matthieu Souben said at noon: “Yesterday afternoon we had the opportunity to push a bit and try to pull the race. We really wanted to do it, so we decided to do it, and it went very well for us.” On board, Sébastien Rogues is obviously savoring the moment, but stay tuned. : “We are going to start getting into traffic, there is going to be some sargassum. We are also going to try to preserve our trimaran, which already has 5,800 miles behind it. And, above all, we are going to savor these last hours at sea before disembarking and meeting everyone ”.
The “Maxi Edmond de Rothschild” (Franck Cammas – Charles Caudrelier) is advancing this afternoon at about twenty knots in the direction of the Antilles. Second and third respectively, the ‘Banque Populaire XI’ and the ‘SVR-Lazartigue’ continue to sail near the South American no-go zone, and are expected to arrive in Martinique a little later tomorrow. And in this last section of the route, the Ultime 32/23 category offers us a final suspense, for fourth place. The «Sodebo Ultim 3» of Thomas Coville and Thomas Rouxel, which has sailed a good part of the regatta in the tail due to its damaged foil, has chosen a route far to the north after the São Pedro and São Paulo crossing mark and It is benefiting from better wind conditions than its rival ‘Actual Ultim 3’ of Yves Le Blevec and Anthony Marchand, which is heading 300 miles further south.
Armel Le Cléac’h and Kevin Escoffier, aboard the «Banque Populaire XI», know what these special moments are at the end of a transatlantic regatta. “Be attentive to the maneuvers, the handling of the boat and make sure not to damage it. We know that it will be very difficult to reach Gitana 17 (at 150 miles), but we are going to try to keep François Gabart and Tom Laperche’s« SVR-Lazartigue »behind. of us”, they explain. “We constantly have fun, whether we fly with the pilot or do a lot of gliding. The boat is exciting because it is sensitive to adjustments and very versatile. It’s great to be out there. Above all, it allows us to store experiences and valuable data for the future ”; commented Kevin Escoffier.
The IMOCA «La Mie Câline» by Arnaud Boissières and Rodolphe Sepho, in position 15, is the last OPEN 60 to turn Fernando de Noronha; there are still five monohulls to reach this crossing point.
“LinkedOut” remains unattainable in the hands of Thomas Ruyant and Morgan Lagravière when they are 950 miles from arrival. In the last day they have once again stretched the advantage they have over the second and third «Apivia» and «Charal». In Fort-France they expect the «LinkedOut» to cross the finish line on Thursday.
In the fourth and fifth position the swords are also kept high. Sam Davies, along with Nicolas Lunven aboard the “Initiatives-Cœur”, is not willing to throw in the towel in favor of Sébastien Simon’s “Arkea Paprec” and Yann Eliès in fourth position. The 20 miles that separate them will be fought a lot by the British employer, although the benefits between the two IMOCAs are favorable to that of Simón and Eliès.
