NFL: Nahshon Wright joins list of Cowboys players affected by COVID-19

FRISCO, Texas – Dallas Cowboys rookie cornerback Nahshon Wright has been diagnosed positive with COVID-19, bringing to eight the number of players and coaches at the Texas club who will be sidelined for Thursday’s game evening against the Saints of New Orleans because of the virus.

Head coach Mike McCarthy and five of his coaching staff were unable to accompany the team to Louisiana after receiving positive diagnoses.

Wright and right tackle Terence Steele are the two players left out. Wright played sporadically on defense, training mostly with special teams.

McCarthy was diagnosed positive on Monday and admitted to experiencing symptoms the next day. He occasionally coughed during his conference call with reporters on Tuesday. McCarthy participates in his team’s videoconferences.

Wide end Amari Cooper has been given the nod from medics to return to the Cowboys training complex after missing two games due to COVID-19. McCarthy, however, indicated that Cooper has not trained and is still not 100% recovered. The head coach mentioned that Cooper, who is not vaccinated against COVID-19, is unlikely to be in uniform against the Saints.
