Nagelsmann on Sané: “He has these talent-free actions”

Leroy Sané also shone in the 5-2 win over Benfica Lisbon. Coach Julian Nagelsmann then looked for an explanation for the recent increase in performance of the German national player.

In the middle of the second round, the satisfaction was also noticeable verbally. “In the 70th minute I said: ‘It’s nice when people are there – and you don’t have to watch the game on TV,'” said Julian Nagelsmann after the final whistle on “Prime Video”. On his comeback he had a big grin on his lips several times. “It was fun to watch again,” said the Bayern coach.

Leroy Sané, among others, had a lot of fun. The German international contributed a goal and a template to make it 5-2 over Benfica Lisbon, and was always right in the thick of it when it was fast through the center. Nagelsmann called his performance “outstanding”, “he played one of his most active games today.”

Applause from the scene for “talent-free actions”

The Bayern coach did not completely withhold a look back at worse times. “It is incredibly strong what happened after Cologne,” said Nagelsmann. At the home game against FC at the end of August, Sané was whistled by his own fans. On Wednesday he got several applause from the scene – and not just for his offensive performance.

“He has these talent-free actions,” said Nagelsmann at the press conference and explained this expression as follows: “Actions that you don’t need talent for. In the first half he has a standard with phonzie (Davies, d.Red.) defends afterwards over 70 meters, where the spectators celebrate. It’s good for everyone when people outside are shouting and cheering. ”

New position as a factor for increasing performance

Nagelsmann identified the 25-year-old’s new position as a factor in Sané’s performance improvement over the past few weeks. He had already acted on the ten with his three scorer points at 4-0 in Lisbon, on Tuesday he took the half-left position of the offensive five-man row in the unfamiliar 3-1-5-1. “If he plays more center-heavy, he has more actions and shorter ways in counter-pressing,” explained Nagelsmann.

A real re-education was not necessary, so Nagelsmann. “The other positioning and not much else,” replied the coach to the question raised by himself at the press conference about what he had done with Sané. Although, there is still one thing: “I like him very much. He has already done the rest himself.”
