“My focus is on recovering”

The Spanish Carolina Marín expressed this Monday during the presentation of the Huelva 2021 Badminton World Championship that, although the option to play this competition is still “there”, her focus of attention is on recovering from her injury and feeling “every day better than the knee”.

“I do not rule out anything, because I still have days and a few weeks ahead, but for me what matters is health and until I feel completely confident I will not compete again,” said Marín during the presentation ceremony held at the badminton pavilion of the High Performance Center of the Higher Sports Council (CSD) in Madrid.

Marín suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament and two menisci in his left knee at the beginning of June, which prevented him from competing in the Tokyo Olympics.

With the doubt about the presence of the three-time world champion and Olympic gold medalist in Rio 2016, this contest declared “Event of Exceptional Public Interest” by the Government of Spain will include the Senior World Cup and the Absolute World Cup, events that will be held in Huelva to more than two thousand athletes from 65 countries and more than 30 thousand visitors between November 28 and December 19.

“Huelva has turned to the World Cup. In 2018, the European Championship there was an organizational success and we are sure that this World Cup will be the best of those that have been organized ”, expressed Andoni Azurmendi, president of the Spanish Badminton Federation (FESBA).

The president of the Higher Sports Council, José Manuel Franco; the mayor of Huelva, Gabriel Cruz; the general secretary for sport of the Junta de Andalucía, José María Arrabal and the president of the Development and Sport Committee of the World Badminton Federation (BWF), David Cabello, were also present at this presentation.

This will be the third time that Spain has hosted this competition after having Seville as its venue in 2001 and Madrid in 2006.
