Mikam Zvejnieks podium in FIS slalom in Sweden

Mountain skier Miks Zvejnieks won second place in the FIS slalom competition in the Swedish town of Kiruna on Wednesday night, reaching the record of this season’s FIS points.

After successfully completing the first couple of races this winter, Miks Zvejnieks took part in another FIS (International Ski Federation) slalom competition in Kiruna, Sweden on Tuesday and Wednesday.

On the first day of the competition, the Fisherman took the fifth place after the first trip, but in the sum of two trips, she showed the ninth time, losing to the winner of the competition, the Swedish William Jonson, by 1.33 seconds. The Latvian earned 43.27 FIS ranking points.

On the second day of the race, November 24, Mick had a great first race, 0.51 seconds behind Jonson. The fifth result was achieved in the second trip, but in total the Fisherman was enough to keep the second place and win the first podium this season. In the end, the deficit to the winner Jonson was 0.80 seconds, but the third place finisher Salomo Sirvio was 0.19 seconds behind Mika. The second eldest of the Fishermen’s Brothers also has a record of 38.34 FIS points.

“It’s great to fight off the podium at the beginning of the season so early. It gives a lot of confidence. Two good races, a fight for victory, now just ahead.” said the athlete himself after the competition.

The marathon for Latvian mountain skiers will continue in the coming days, as slalom competitions are planned today and tomorrow in Levi, Finland, where the World Cup stage took place last weekend.
