  • The most important sports news:

  • Kirsten Flipkens ends with victory in singles and loss in doubles

Kirsten Flipkens had mixed success on Saturday with her team New York Empire in their last game at the World Team Tennis in Indian Wells, American. De Kempense won her singles match against the San Diego Aviators but lost in the women’s doubles. Kim Clijsters again did not play.

Flipkens defeated American Caroline Dolehide 5-1 in her singles match. He then pulled back in doubles at the longest end. On the side of Coco Vandeweghe, Dolehide won 5-4 against Flipkens and Quinn Gleason.

New York Empire defeated the San Diego Aviators 23-19 but nevertheless closed the tournament in fifth and last place with four wins and eight losses.

The final will be played on Sunday between the Springfield Lasers and the Orange County Breakers (with Amanda Anisimova, among others).

  • Matthias Mayer wins Lake Louise descent

Matthias Mayer won the first World Cup downhill of the season on Saturday in Lake Louise, Canada. The 31-year-old Austrian was 23 hundredths faster than his compatriot Vincent Kriechmayr. The Swiss Beat Feuz was third at 35 hundredths.

Swiss Marco Odermatt only needed fourth place to keep the lead in the World Cup. Mayer shares second place on 50 points with his compatriot Christian Hirschbühl. There will be a super-G skiing in Lake Louise on Sunday.

Mayer recorded his eleventh World Cup victory, the first this season and the seventh in a downhill. He also became Olympic champion in Sochi in 2014 in that discipline. Four years later, he grabbed Olympic gold in the super-G in Pyeongchang.

  • Stephen Fulton Unites WBO and WBC SuperBantam Titles

American boxer Stephen Fulton has crowned himself the new WBO and WBC super bantam weight champion on Saturday evening. He took it in the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on points from his compatriot Brandon Figueroa (116-112, 116-112 and 114-114).

The 27-year-old Fulton, who is still undefeated, united both titles with the twentieth victory of his career. Fulton was already WBO champion, Figueroa had the WBC title. The latter suffered the first defeat of his career at the age of 24 (22 victories, 1 undecided).

In the same weight class, Uzbek Murodjon Akhmadaliev is the champion in the WBA and IBF.

  • George Kambosos Jr. captures lightweight titles at WBA, IBF and WBO

Australian boxer George Kambosos Jr. can call himself the new lightweight champion in the WBA, IBF and WBO. He defeated American defending champion Teofimo Lopez on points (115-111, 115-112 and 113-114) at the Hulu Theater in New York on Saturday.

The 28-year-old Kambosos remains unbeaten after twenty professional fights (10 KOs). His opponent four years younger drew the short straw for the first time in his career. Lopez had stolen the three titles from Ukrainian Vasyl Lomachenko last year.

  • Bertrand Baguette ends season with withdrawal at 300km from Fuji

Bertrand Baguette (Honda) ended the season in the Super GT, the Japanese touring car championship, on a sour note. He soon had to throw in the towel in the 300 km of Fuji on Sunday.

Baguette and his Japanese teammate Koudai Tsukakoshi still had a chance at the title. They started the final round 8 points behind the leaders, but their race lasted just three laps on Sunday. Then Baguette got involved in a collision and had to give up. Baguette and Tsukakoshi close the championship in sixth place, 12 points behind the champions.

The Japanese Naoki Yamamoto and Tadasuke Makino (Honda) started the final race as the leaders but they also collided and eventually finished fourteenth. The stage win and title went to their compatriots Yuhi Sekiguchi and Sho Tsuboi (Toyota).
