The Latvian women’s floorball team lost to the third game of the World Championship in Uppsala on Tuesday, conceding to the Czech national team with 0: 8 (0: 4, 0: 2, 0: 2).

Although the game would not change much for the Czech Republic, the opposing players scored two goals in the first six minutes of the first third. Five minutes before the end of the third, Latvian Anna Ankudinova had a chance to score the first goal in the match, but the opposing goalkeeper played flawlessly, catching the ball before Ankudinova was able to take the throw. In the second third, the Czechs had several good goal scoring opportunities, but were able to realize one of them only in the 12th minute. Although the majority of Latvians tightly protected their goals, another goal was scored for only a minute and ten seconds until the end of the second third.

The Latvian players received their first rejection only in the eighth minute of the game and the goal was not scored in the minority. At the end of the game, Jūlija Rozīte had a chance to score when the Czech goalkeeper failed to hit the ball, but the ball found no way into the practically empty goal. Martina Repkova, who was recognized as the best player of the team, stood out in the Czech national team with five goals scored

The goalkeeper Jana Filipsone, who made his debut in the championship, was named the best player in Latvia in this match. She fought off 20 opponents in that match, while Czech goalkeeper Jan Kristianova had to deal with just five shots. The next match will be played by Latvian floorball players on Wednesday at 11 am. against the Norwegian national team in the fight to enter the top eight. On Sunday, in the first game of the group, Latvian floorball players conceded to the Polish national team with the result 4: 6, but on Monday capitulated to Switzerland with 0:13. The Czech Republic first defeated Switzerland 5: 2 and then 6: 2 over Poland.

In a group, teams will play with each other. The owners of the first two places in groups A and B will immediately enter the quarterfinals, but the owners of the third and fourth places will have to meet the two strongest teams of each group in the second echelon. The head coach of the Latvian national team Jānis Inģists has included two goalkeepers, four defensive players and 14 attackers in the national team. The largest representation of players is from the Kocēni “Rubene” club – nine floorball players. Two players are from Kekava “Bulldogs” / NND and Cēsis “Lekrings”, but one each represents “Līgatne” and “Ķekava” teams. Five more floorball players play in foreign clubs in Switzerland and Finland every day.

The Latvian women’s national team currently ranks seventh in the world, but in the previous world championship, which took place two years ago in the Swiss city of Neuchâtel, the team won eighth place. Latvians have participated in all 12 world championships held so far, each time entering the top eight. In the 2007 World Championship, the Latvian national team won the high fourth place. Jānis Inģistas is assisted by coach Linda Līce, as well as fitness coach Kaspars Reikmanis.
