Thanks in particular to the singles victories of Kim Clijsters and in mixed doubles of Kirsten Flipkens, New York Umpire earned their second victory in eight World Team Tennis games on Monday. New York Umpire won 20-16 against the San Diego Aviators.
It’s here 3rd win in eight singles appearances for the 38-year-old Limburg woman, who left no chance for Coco Vandeweghe, still 9th in the world at the start of 2018 but dropped to 173rd in the WTA ranking. Clijsters won 5-0, taking the 29-year-old American’s service three times.
In the process, Kirsten Flipkens and American Christopher Eubanks won 5-4 in mixed doubles. The two Belgian players then climbed onto the court together to compete in the doubles, which they lost 5-2 to Vandeweghe and Caroline Dolehide.
In the standings, New York Umpire remains last despite its victory and has a record of two wins for six losses. The Springfield Lasers (6v-2d) and the Oranghe County Breakers (5v-23) occupy the first two places, synonymous with the final for the title at the end of the group stage. There are four meetings left for the band at Kim Clijsters and Kirsten Flipkens.
All World Team Tennis matches are played on the courts at Indian Wells Tennis Garden, California. The competition continues until November 28.
