Kevin/Marcus Ups and Downs to the Quarterfinals

Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon vs Choi Solgyu/Kim Wonho in the last 16 of the Indonesia Open 2021. The Minions won through a tight match!

Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon were challenged by Choi Solgyu/Kim Wonho in the continuation of the 2021 Indonesia Open at the Bali International Convention Center, Nusa Dua, Bali, Thursday (24/12).

Kevin/Marcus 12-21, 21-19, and 21-18 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Indonesia Open 2021.

The first game starts, Kevin/Marcus take control. They led 2-0, which immediately served fast balls.

Choi/Kim were reluctant to be left behind for long, the South Korean pair immediately equalized 3-3. It didn’t take long for the Minions to drift away again.

Choi/Kim keep pressing. Choi’s punch in the middle failed to be blocked by Kevin/Marcus, where they miscommunicated until they finally fought the racket and drew 6-6.

The score continues to be tight, both partners are both willing to play a fast tempo. The first interval belongs to the Korean pair, 11-9.

Choi/Kim continued to drift away, who managed to control the rhythm and lead 16-10. Kevin/Marcus looked a little overwhelmed with quick ball returns up front.

Choi/Kim continued to have the upper hand, they won game points 20-12 after Marcus’ lob ended out. Again Marcus out hit, Choi/Kim closed the first game 21-12.

In the second game, Kevin/Marcus took the lead 4-0. They forced Korean players to make mistakes.

Kevin/Marcus secured the second interval with an 11-8 advantage, after Choi made a service fault.

After the interval, Kevin/Marcus continued to maintain a 15-10 distance. Through Marcus who played well withstood a quick blow.

Choi/Kim tried to get close, 15-17 after the Minions didn’t hit the target.

Kevin/Marcus out of pressure. They won the game points 20-17, when Choi was too eager to try to put the ball far but instead went out.

Choi/Kim have not given up, trying to press 19-20, when Kevin’s punch hit the net itself. But after that, victory for the Indonesian pair with Marcus 21-19’s hard jump smash!

Third gym, tight score in the beginning. The score was 3-3, when Marcus mis-observed letting the ball in.

The long rally game took place, both pairs seemed to want to minimize their own mistakes. The score is back at 5-5, again Marcus is wrong!

The Minions had a three-point lead, but were leveled again. Choi mercilessly gave a jump smash and made 8-8 points. Then, it was Kim’s turn to make the Korean couple turn 9-8 ahead.

The third interval was closed with Choi/Kim’s narrow advantage, 11-10 after Kevin’s shot got stuck in his own net.

Kevin’s cross made it 13-13. Minions away, 16-13 again through the action of Kevin snatching the ball responsibility.

Marcus turns to show off. His jump smash was unstoppable, 19-15. Match point for Kevin / Marcus, after Choi failed to send the ball to the target, 20-16.

Furthermore, the Minions won 21-18 after Kevin performed brilliantly near the net and hit a cross.
