Kazakhstan enters the quarterfinals, knocking out Canada

Kazakhstan qualified this Sunday for the Davis Cup quarterfinals by defeating Canada 2-0, in the absence of the doubles match, and thus guarantee the first place in group B, which is played in the Madrid Arena from the Spanish capital.

His rival in the quarterfinals, on day 1 also in Madrid, will be one of the two best seconds in the group that will enter the knockout phase.

The victory was ratified by Alexander Bublik by winning his point against Vasek Pospisil 6-2 and 7-6 (6).

With Canada, finalist in 2019 with the now absent Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime, already eliminated, Pospisil did not come out far from delivered but wasted his opportunities to force the tiebreaker set and fight to put a point on the scoreboard of the team that was a finalist in 2019.

Before, Mikhail Kukushkin had defeated Brayden Schnur 6-3, 6-7 (5) and 7-5, thus ruling out the only combination that was worth Canada: win 3-0, be second in group B and wait for the results of other groups .

Canada already seriously complicated their options on the match day last Thursday, when they fell 3-0 to Sweden.

The Swedes will be second in the group and must wait to see if they advance to the box. They have many possibilities with the balance of 4 games won and 2 lost.

It is the sixth time that the Kazakhstan team has reached the Davis Cup quarter-finals, their top in this competition.
