Kanter is now an American citizen, new surname Freedom

After losing Turkish citizenship as an opponent of Erdogan, the center of the Celtics chose to become Enes “Libertà”

That the United States has long made the term “freedom” an essential word for the whole country, the Turkish center of the Boston Celtics in the NBA, has obtained US citizenship after losing that of the homeland, due to its strenuous opposition to the “president” Erdogan.

Politically active for some time, Kanter has therefore decided to celebrate obtaining the new passport by changing his surname in an official way. The choice fell on “Freedom”, a literal translation of freedom, and it is certainly not accidental for the “new” Enes Kanter Freedom.

The decision is consistent with the political activism of the NBA player, who from 2016 onwards became an exile in the States for having supported the Turkish politician Fethullah Gulen – now US like Kanter -, who according to the regime had made himself responsible according to of a failed coup that very year.

Since 2017 Kanter no longer has Turkish citizenship, with a lot of pending extradition and trial in Turkey that would see him as the protagonist. However, “Freedom” in 2019 had spared no criticism and fierce public attacks on Erdogan (defined as the “new Hitler”) and his former homeland, home to military activities in Syria against the Kurds.

The basketball player’s family, who remained in Turkey, officially and publicly denied him, but the center of the Celtics has always said he was worried about possible retaliation against them.

With “Freedom” which over the years has broadened its political horizons, taking sides against China with regard to the persecution of Tibetans and Uyghurs, child labor and gender diversity in professional basketball that penalizes women and not a little.
