Italy, with a higher ranking, is in front of a frenetic home crowd in Turin against Croatia, losing 2-1 in the Davis Cup quarter-finals.

The top ten player Jannik Sinner made up for the deficit with a three-set win against the former US Open winner Marin Cilic, while Lorenzo Sonego made up for the defeat against the world number 279. Borna Gojo was in debt. Then Sinner and Fabio Fognini lost the decisive double against the Olympic champions Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic 3: 6, 4: 6. The Italians had to do without Matteo Berrettini, who had previously injured his abdominal muscles at the ATP Finals in Turin in his opening game against Alexander Zverev.

Croatia is now traveling to Madrid for the semi-finals, where they will face Serbia with Novak Djokovic or Kazakhstan.

The second surprising semi-finalist is Germany. The Germans, who played without Olympic champion Alexander Zverev, defeated Great Britain 2-1 in Innsbruck. In Madrid, the Germans face Russia or Sweden.
