Indonesia Open Result Recap: Marcus/Kevin and 4 Red and White Representatives Reach Top 16 All

KOMPAS.com – A total of five Indonesian representatives won tickets for the second round or the last 16 of the 2021 Indonesia Open on the first day of the tournament, Tuesday (11/23/2021).

On the same day, the struggle of the four representatives of Indonesia had to stop.

One of the Indonesian representatives who managed to qualify for the last 16 of the Indonesia Open 2021 is the world’s number one men’s doubles, Marcus Fernaldi Gideon / Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo.

The Minions, nicknamed Marcus/Kevin, advanced to the second round of the Indonesia Open 2021 after defeating the non-seeded Japanese representative, Keiichiro Matsui/Yoshinori Takeuchi.

Competing at the Bali International Convention Center, Marcus/Kevin had to fight for three games for 1 hour 5 minutes to beat Matsui/Takeuchi.

The final score for Marcus/Kevin’s victory was 12-21, 21-18, and 21-15.

After the match, Kevin Sanjaya again criticized BWF. Kevin Sanjaya this time complained about the schedule formulated by BWF.

Because, Marcus / Kevin only get a day’s rest after competing in the 2021 Indonesia Masters final, Sunday (11/21/2021).

“I think the BWF kind of treated us like robots. We just finished competing on Sunday.” said Kevin Sanjaya.

“Just because we are seeded first have to play on Tuesday. I don’t think it’s fair.” said Kevin Sanjaya added.

“We don’t have any rest time at all. One day is really not enough. Especially after a very intense final. It definitely affects the physical,” said Kevin.

Next, Marcus/Kevin will face off against a non-seeded South Korean representative, Choi SolGyu/Kim WonHo, in the last 16 of the Indonesia Open 2021.

One of the Indonesian representatives who grabbed attention on the first day of the 2021 Indonesia Open was Adnan Maulana/Mychelle Crhystine Bandaso.

Adnan/Mychelle looked undaunted when they faced French seventh seed Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue.

Unmitigated, Adnan/Mychelle managed to overthrow Thom/Delrue in two straight games, with a score of 21-17 and 21-17.

Zachariah Josiahno Sumanti/Hediana Julimarbela had a different fate ..

Zachariah / Hediana also faced mixed doubles with superior status, namely Chan Peng Soon / Goh Liu Ying (Malaysia / 5).

However, Zachariah/Hediana must acknowledge the superiority of Chan/Goh who are silver medalists at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Zachariah/Hediana gave up two straight games with the final score 12-21 and 17-21.

Another Indonesian representative who had to be eliminated after losing to a top player was Ruselli Hartawan.

Ruselli Hartawan’s steps stopped in the top 32 of the 2021 Indonesia Open after being defeated by the current best South Korean women’s singles, An Seyoung.

The only Indonesian women’s singles winner who won the last 16 ticket on the first day of the 2021 Indonesia Open was Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.

The 22-year-old player advanced smoothly to the last 16 of the Indonesia Open 2021 after beating the representative of Thailand, Supanida Katethong, in two straight games.
