Based on loss points, the team from Rotterdam is the leader in the Eredivisie, but whether Feyenoord can really participate in the title depends on various factors, according to Everse.
“If the players stay fit and are not sold, I see them participating for quite a long time. But maybe Luis Sinisterra or Marcos Senesi will be sold. Then it will be a different story.”
“They should not lose three or four players with injuries, because they have a narrow selection and what is behind it is not much. But they play with pleasure. I missed that in recent years. And then a lot is possible.”
‘PEC relegation candidate number one’
While Feyenoord is doing well beyond expectations, opponent PEC Zwolle has many problems. The club is desolate and last week trainer Art Langeler resigned. Dick Schreuder was appointed as his replacement.
“To be honest, I don’t lose sleep over that situation,” explains Everse. “I had a great time as a trainer, but I am not a fan of the club. It is a wonderful club where great people work. For this season they are really relegation candidate number one. And then I don’t say anything crazy.”
“The last two years it has been thin there. They have a light selection. But I really hope they stay in it. Because make no mistake: if you are relegated, it is difficult to return from the first division.”
